Leonese Jinetes are mid tier troops of the Leonese rural troop tree. As their name suggest, they're mounted soldiers usually equipped with javelins, spears, small one-handed weapons, round cavalry shields and leather armor.

In the fitting circunstances, Jinetes can be a terribly annoying kind of opponent thanks to their hit & run tactics and the surprising amounts of damage their javelins can deal. Due to their low maintenance cost and quick training, they tend to appear in noticeable numbers among hispanic armies.

Behind the scenes[]

Jinete is a spanish word which means "horseman", but the term is usually applied to a certain type of light cavalry developed in the early Middle Ages by the hispanic christian kingdoms in order to oppose the great numbers of Moorish light horsemen. Jinetes were usually equipped with throwing weapons (like javelins) and performed a role of mounted skirmishers, harassing their opponents with ranged attacks, charging at them should they break their formation, and sometimes using tactics of feigned flight. They played an important part through all the Reconquista and the Italian Wars of the XVI Century.
