Solidarii of Santiago are the lowest tier troops of the Santiago professional troop tree, and therefore the most basic soldiers among the elite units of the Order of Santiago. They are usually equipped with small one-handed weapons, spears, kite shields and surcoats over mail armor.
Solidarii of Santiago can be recruited - for a fee of 50 denars - from any castle belonging to the Order from the very moment the player becomes a lord of any faction (the player's own kingdom included), which are the following at the starting point of the game: Uclés, Montalbán and Palmella.
Unlike towns and villages, the culture of a castle does change when it's conquered by a different faction, so the castles above will not be the only place where Solidarii of Santiago can be recruited if the Order conquers more castles. Also, if some of those castles are conquered by another faction, Solidarii of Santiago will be replaced (as recruitable soldiers) by the lowest tier troop of the new owner's professional troop tree.
In the case the Order of Santiago is completely wiped out of the map, Solidarii of Santiago will no longer be available to be recruited anywhere.
Notes[]
Solidarius means "[man] serving for money" or "serving for pay" in Latin[1]. The term origins from solidus, a gold coin from the Late Roman Empire period, and would end up evolving into the modern-day word "soldier".
