|King Vukan Nemanjić of Zeta|
|Faction||Grand Principality of Serbia|
King Vukan Nemanjić of Zeta is a vassal of the Grand Principality of Serbia.
Historical Background Edit
He was born before 1165 as the first son of the Serbian Grand Prince Stefan Nemanja, and died around 1209. Despite being the firstborn son, the ruling title of Grand Prince went to his younger brother - Stefan. The reason for this precedent isn't exactly clear - some say it was because Vukan was a Catholic (while Serbia was mostly Orthodox), some say because Stefan was married to the Byzantine Princess Eudokia, so Nemanja wanted to strengthen the alliance with the Roman Empire, while some say it was simply because Stefan was deemed more able to rule. Whatever the reason, it was the beggining of a long-lasting feud between the brothers, which would eventually bring an all-out war to the land, in 1202.
